What does a chiropractor do?
Chiropractic is a health profession concerned with the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of mechanical disorders of the musculoskeletal system (bones, joints and muscles), and the effects of these disorders on the function of the nervous system and general health. There is an emphasis on manual treatments including spinal adjustment and other joint and soft-tissue manipulation.
Chiropractors have a specialist interest in neck and back pain but when they assess their patient they take their entire physical, emotional and social wellbeing into account.
How do we do it?
The term “Chiropractic” is Greek and translates as “done by hand”. Depending on your diagnosis, your treatment may involve gentle manipulation or mobilisation of parts of your spine and joints. In addition, as Chiropractors we will be looking in detail at your lifestyle and help you to make choices about exercises, self-help, diet, posture and any psychological considerations. A rehabilitation plan will be discussed with you (according to your diagnosis) to help achieve a long lasting recovery and results.
General Chiropractic Council
Chiropractic is a Primary Healthcare Profession, so you do not need to be referred by your General Practitioner (GP). Chiropractic does not involve the use of drugs or surgery. As with theMedical and Dental Professions, The Chiropractic Profession is statutorily regulated through the General Chiropractic Council (GCC). It is illegal to call yourself a “Chiropractor” without being registered with the GCC
